Gavin Sample was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. After graduating from high school in 2017, he attended Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), where he stayed in his hometown and majored in Political Science. During his undergraduate studies, he was an active member of the on-campus Political Science community, forging friendships with other students within the department. Gavin and his fellow political science majors fostered a friendly culture among each other, learning to get along despite the differing opinions they held about hot-button topics discussed in their classes.

After graduating from SEMO, Gavin Sample moved to Kansas City in June of 2021 to attend law school at UMKC Law. While in law school, he came to love living in Kansas City, due in large part to the great food and the wonderful people. Also while in law school, Gavin married his amazing wife, Kirstin. Gavin’s three years at UMKC Law deepened his understanding, perspective, and knowledge of the law and how it impacts society. He especially enjoyed his criminal law classes and how the criminal justice system functions and has evolved over time. However, Gavin found himself interested in a variety of areas of law and remains open to working in those areas in his first few years as an attorney.
Gavin Sample graduated from UMKC Law in May of 2024, made the Dean’s List that semester, took the Missouri Bar in July, and passed. He is thankful to have been sworn in by Hon. Judge Alok Ahuja of Missouri’s Court of Appeals, Western District, at an event hosted by the Kansas City Metro Bar Association that October. Gavin is excited to have started his legal career in the Kansas City Metro; he looks forward to growing in his legal expertise and delivering quality legal services to the clients he serves.
